Less than a month before the annual Burning Man festival in the Nevada desert, Disorient invites you to experience a piece of the playa brought right to New York City. Under a glowing garden of mushrooms and starfish, surrounded by beautiful Freeks in next-level finery, revelers will dance to the soundtrack of their playa memories and prepare for this year's journey to the desert.

Disorient is an arts collective that has made its presence felt at the Burning Man festival for over 10 years, and has brought a new level of Glam-Tech to the New York underground party scene. With art installations, blinking lights and pumping bass, Disorient has created unique and unforgettable events in raw spaces and established clubs throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn. For this event, they have curated a top notch lineup of west coast heroes and local favorites to provide mind-altering transportation from this up and coming Brooklyn nightclub straight to the Black Rock Desert.

The three headliners of the event have each earned their playa pedigree many times over. Kapt’n Kirk of the Space Cowboys was one of the first DJs to introduce breaks music to Burning Man. Kramer from the Deep End champions one of the largest and most respected all-day house music parties at the event, and is making his NYC debut at Compressor. Also making his New York debut is Danny Corn from LA’s Moontribe. Moontribe has been throwing legendary full moon desert parties for over 15 years, and Disorient is psyched to let New Yorkers hear his twisted brand of desert breaks. Rounding out the lineup are local favorites JP001, Sub Swara, and Galen Mica, Disorient's own Orion and The Eye, plus burner DJs 3L3TRONIC, and trance beats from Babla and Luis. Just like the Burning Man festival, this party offers every genre of music imaginable throughout the night.

Visual Artists AKAirways and Leo Villareal will showcase their playa-friendly art installations, including interactive inflatables and intelligent lighting. With two rooms of sound, plus a Puddle Lounge, every inch of this newly redesigned nightclub will be filled with music and light, the stage will host dancers and hooping performances, and the dancefloor will be home to New York's costume elite showing off their Burner couture for 2006.

If you ever Burned, you will want to get ignited here with us. If you know friends waiting for a spark to start a fire inside their soul, this is where they will find it.
Red Bull gives you wings: official
Masks effects of booze, study shows
By Lester Haines
Published Monday 27th March 2006 11:22 GMT

"Red Bull does indeed give you wings, a Brazilian study has shown. A Sao Paulo university team plied 26 male volunteers* with booze, Red Bull or a mixture of both, and demonstrated what deranged clubbers already knew: mixing energy drinks with alcohol provokes "an increased sensation of pleasure and a reduction in sleepiness". Or, as team leader professor Maria Lucia Souza-Formigoni told the BBC: "The person is drunk but does not feel as drunk as he really is."

Souza-Formigoni explained: "In Brazil, as in other countries, people believe that Red Bull and other energy drinks avoid the sleepiness caused by alcoholic beverages and increase their capacity to dance all night." Her subjects fuelled with the Red Bull and alcohol mix did indeed report "less perception of headache, weakness, dry mouth and impairment of motor coordination".

And the danger? Thinking you're less legless than you really are and then taking the car for a spin. Souza-Formigoni's fellow researcher professor Roseli Boergnen de Lacerda, of the Federal University of Parana, duly warned: "The implications of these findings are that this association of alcohol and energy drinks is harmful rather than beneficial as believed by consumers."

An Alcohol Concern spokeswoman told the BBC: "This is a small study but it does highlight the risks of excess drinking in relation to personal safety. Alcohol affects physical coordination and impairs an individual's ability to gauge how safe they are in a particular situation and take appropriate action. So any drink that heightens a person's perception of being in control, when they are not, could increase the potential risk of harm."

A Red Bull spokeswoman declared: "Red Bull strongly advocates the responsible use of alcohol at all times. The position of Red Bull, in line with responsible adults and driving organisations worldwide, is that it is absolutely wrong to drink alcohol and drive at any time, regardless of whether alcohol has been mixed or not."

And the case for Red Bull? The spokeswoman added: "Driving organisations, including the RAC, have endorsed the sole consumption of Red Bull or other caffeine-based drinks whilst driving to improve concentration and reaction time, and therefore safety."

Bootnote

*No, sadly, we were not invited to participate in this essential research programme. How that one slipped past us is anyone's guess."

So, I'm hanging out last Sat with a bunch of friends. We're going to rock hard, so I go on the booze run and get a 7 pack of Sparks (a nice lucky number). Half the crowd there hasn't even heard of this stuff, much less drank it. Even after everyone pissing on how bad it tastes, it still doesn't take long for the whole 7 cans to be downed in short order. The youngest of the bunch, who I'm guessing hasn't drank much in general much less Sparks, is now completely wired. Can't stop talking but also doesn't realize he's also hella drunk (did I mention the Tequila shot chasers? Yeah those too). We end up going to an underground SF Love Parade After Party right on the Bay in Hunter's Point. This guy is now running around like he's a speed freak, but again, doesn't realize he's got tons of malt liquor in him. He then decides he needs to take a piss and the best place to go would be among the massive amounts of rocks on the shore of the bay. He is gone for like 10 minutes, so I go looking for him. He comes up from the shore with a massive gash on his hand from stumbling and hitting hard on the rocks. He's actually bleeding pretty good. Of course no one has a band-aid or anything. A nice youg girl then gives up a promo shirt she got from the Love Parade to use as a bandage and my friend is able to get in the club and procede to rock out non-stop to sick Breakbeats for the next 4 hours.

All hail the power of Sparks.
MAXMALT catches my eye.
lemon lime or orange flavor, same size can as SPARKS, in fact the orange one has alarmingly similar look to the SPARKS can. it's 6% alcohol too and i think a little cheaper than sparks. i opt for the lemon-lime (or my boyfriend does, more accurately) just for something different from sparks' options. he promptly opens it and declares it's crap and he can't drink it. i try it, and i love it.... tastes like 7-up, not as sweet as sparks, and i prefer the lemon-lime thing to orange anyday. i don't get a alcohol buzz off one can, though, which i do from sparks.

We dubbed 71 and 72 coffee and tea respectively and drank them without remorse. Without Sparks I'm not sure if the ChickenHed Village would have been the same. It was ample sleep-replacement party-inducer for the first half of the week at least. Sunday night we all fell asleep early. Hardly a coincedence. Next time we'll have to bring 24 more!

Sparks is definitely cheaper and more fun (as is PBR for that matter), and Tuaca is a demanding expensive bitch to take out for the night. Does this mean I'm purely looking for cheap pleasure? Are my standards too low?

Do I even need to attempt to engage people in this ludicrous discussion?
Just wondering if anyone has had similar "cheating" situations surface with their Drinks of Choice?

For all those who want to live a more righteous, Sparks-free life, I will be holding a 12-step Sparks Anon group every last Thursday of the month at the local cornerstore.
